- Tangible user interfaces
- Paper-centric user interfaces
- Interactive surfaces
- Computer-supported collaborative work/learning (CSCW/CSCL)
Current Projects
CoScribe: Integrating paper and digital documents
CoScribe is a collaborative platform for knowledge workers. The project extends computing into the physical world and tightly integrates the interaction with printed and digital documents. It offers novel interaction techniques for cross-media annotations, links and tags that rely on using the same digital pen both on paper and on tabletop displays.
Hybrid Interactive Surfaces
This project focuses on designing interaction techniques for hybrid tabletop displays, which enable users to concurrently manipulate digital and physical media on one single surface.

Mobile Multimedia Interaction
We develop novel interaction techniques for the mobile navigation of multimedia contents.
PRISM
PRISM provides a novel toolkit for the support of pen-based interaction on arbitrary surfaces in interactive spaces.
Pen-based Musical Interaction
We are currently developing a novel instrument for live music performance which relies on digital pens and interactive surfaces
Past Projects
Algorithmic Mechanism Design
The field of Algorithmic Mechanism Design combines research on algorithms with game theory and microeconomics. It establishes a framework for enhancing collaboration in heterogeneous multi-agent systems.
Short Bio
Jürgen is a post-doctoral researcher and heading the Tangible Interaction area at the Telecooperation group. From 2006 to 2009, he prepared his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Max Mühlhäuser as a scholar of the DFG
Postgraduate School eLearning.
Before joining Darmstadt University of Technology, Jürgen studied computer science and french at the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany and at the University Lumière Lyon 2 in Lyon, France. During his studies, he was a scholar of the German National Merit Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).
His research was awarded the Outstanding Full Paper Award at "IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT)" in 2008, the Best Paper Award at "eLearning Fachtagung Informatik (DeLFI)" in 2007 and was nominated for the European eLearning Award (EureleA) in 2009. He is a member of the ACM, SIGCHI and the German Informatics Society.
