Short Biography

Michael is a post-doctoral researcher at Telecooperation Lab. His current research interests include smart cities, edge computing, and distributed algorithms. In his dissertation, Michael contributed to the field of local algorithms, a special kind of distributed algorithms. Local algorithms are robust and scale well with the network size. However, in communication networks, there often exists a trade-off between the degree of locality of an algorithm and the achieved performance. An interesting challenge explored in the dissertation is to dynamically control this trade-off with respect to given requirements. Michael is funded by sub-project A1 in the CRC 1053 (MAKI). This sub-project explores the systematic design of distributed and self-organizing mechanisms for the adaptation of communication topologies. Moreover, Michael is a participant of the Software Campus, a training program for outstanding doctoral students that connects both research and management aspects. In this context, Michael leads the BMBF-funded project DynamicINP (see below), which investigates the challenge of exploiting computing resources at the edge of the network in order to facilitate latency-concerned applications in smart cities.
